Next Step Transition Program
The Next Step Transition Program empowers young adults with disabilities between the ages of 18 to 26. These students build skills necessary for independence, employment, and community involvement.
Despite the impact of Next Step’s extensive work throughout the community, many people were not familiar with the program, where it was located, or who was eligible for it. Additionally, parents and families of Next Step students were not always up-to-date with that their students were working on at Next Step.
After speaking with Next Step Director Scott Ceglarek, I developed an action plan to give the Next Step Transition Program staff the tools and information they needed to creative cohesive, engaging content that put their students and the work they were doing at the forefront of their social media.
Tools & Training for Success
The first step was to help the Next Step Transition Program staff gather photo and video for social media. Everyone on their team had a smart phone, but not everyone knew how to go about using it to take photo and video that was post-able. I gave staff my do’s and don’ts of cellphone photography, to help them understand the basics.
I also provided staff with a plethora of Canva templates and walked them through how to make small changes and edits in Canva.
Lastly, I gave them google slide templates chock full of tips on layout and composition, to help them up their game with materials that were inward-facing, too.
